MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – It’s a gift of warmth to hundreds of students in the bluff city. Everystudent at Bruce Elementary in midtown received a brand-new winter coat Friday.

The donation was made possible thanks to a partnership between FedExand the non-profit “Operation Warm.”

The school’s principal says if a student doesn’t have a warm coat, they may not make it to school in extremely cold weather.

Students say they were proud to pick out their own coats.

“I like this coat because it’s the color of myschool. It kind of represents my school,” said 5th grader MariahSarmienco.

“It’s very nice. I like it so much because it’sgot my favorite suit colors on it,” said 5th grader Jaydon Hill.

“Sometimes those scholars don’t make it to schoolbecause it’s too cold, it’s raining, and so these coats are going to also tryto eliminate some of those barriers that some of our scholars face each andevery day,” said Bruce Elementary principal Archie Moss Jr.

The coat donation at Bruce Elementary is part of FedEx’sgoal to donate 9,000 coats across the U.S. and Canada this year.
