Man found dead in woods off I-40 in Shelby County has been identified

82-year-old Max Kemp of Fayette County, Tennessee, had been reported missing the day before his body was found.

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — UPDATE 5/25/2021 - The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said the man whose body was found May 19th near I-40 in Arlington has been identified.

82-year-old Max Kemp of Fayette County, Tennessee, had been reported missing the day before.

The SCSO said a search by several agencies led to finding Kemp's body.

The victim whose body was found near Interstate 40 in Arlington has been positively identified by the medical examiner as Max Kemp, 82, of Fayette County. Kemp was reported missing on May 18. A subsequent search by multiple agencies resulted in the discovery of his body on May 19

5/19/2021 - An investigation is underway after a body was found off Interstate 40 Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the body was found around 12:30pm in the woods west of Exit 24-25. SCSO did not identify the person or the circumstances around the death.
