Safety first! Barbara Jones of Cordova was so shocked to learn she won a million dollars she immediately popped an aspirin. Only then did she call her husband, who helped verify five of her numbers matched the five white numbers drawn in the Mega Millions drawing held Dec. 13, 2016.

After leaving her ticket taped to her refrigerator since mid-December, she finally decided to check her numbers and claimed the prize this week in Nashville.

“My heart was pounding so hard and fast it scared me!” said Barbara, who owns a sprinkler system company with her husband. “I still can’t believe it.”

Barbara purchased the Mega Millions ticket at Kroger, 9025 Hwy. 64, in Lakeland. That location will receive a $5,000 selling bonus for selling that lucky ticket. Meanwhile, the jackpot for that popular game has reached $162 million for Friday night.
