Memphis Police Work To Keep Kids Safe On Halloween

With ghosts and goblins lurking at night, local law enforcement want to keep your kids from uninvited fright! The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and Memphis Police Department have been working to make sure registered sex offenders don’t break the law.

“We have to check everything and everyone,” says midtown resident Gale Mason. That’s one job of local law enforcement – to keep criminals in check for the safety of our kids in costumes.

“When Halloween comes, we know that they’re safe,” says MPD Lt. Col. Gregory Sanders. “We know nothing is gonna happen to them cause they’re here with us.”

The SCSO has spent a couple of days making sure registered sex offenders are where they’re supposed to be. It’s against the law for sex offenders to put up decorations or hand out candy. SCSO says there has been only one violation so far.

The offender wasn’t arrested, just told to remove the pumpkins front their porch.
