SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (localmemphis.com) – Turkey legs, fried food, and thrills will be served up when the 162nd Mid-South Fair opens Friday night.

Thursday, the fair held its preview night ahead of the officialopening night Friday. Mid-South Fair Executive Director Todd Mastry saidThursday’s preview night was the best attendance yet, as they expect a largecrowd for the fair this year.

There are more than a dozen new rides at the fair this year.Entertainment shows like alligator wrestling, thrill shows, and pig races arescheduled throughout the week.

There will also be several musical performances from artists likeLance Bass and The Band Perry.

Security measures have also been upgraded. This year, fairgoers will have to go through metal detectors before entering the grounds. The Landers Center, which oversees the fair, acquired the metal detectors last year before President Donald Trump’s visit. This will be the first time they’ll be used at the fair.

“Security is always a priority. We have our standard operatingprocedures and the standard that we have here in security. We don’t go belowthat. Having walk through metal detectors, that’s the level we have here. Wedon’t fall below that for any of our events,” Mastry said.

Gates open Friday night at 4:00 p.m. until midnight. Admission is free for people that present a high school football game ticket. The Mid-South Fair runs through Sept. 29th. Ticket prices range from $5-$10 with free admission on select days. For more information on tickets and the entertainment lineup, CLICK HERE.
