Shelby County Sheriff's Office identifies man who drown while fishing in the Mississippi River

This is the second distress call on the river this week, with a near drowning Tuesday evening.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. —

UPDATE 7/27/2020: According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, the fisherman who drown was 27-year-old Alfonzo Ledesma-Perez.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says the body of a missing fisherman has been found Sunday afternoon.

SCSO says the fisherman reportedly went underwater while fishing in the Mississippi River. SCSO Search & Rescue, along with other agencies, closed down the Shelby Forest boat ramp to an active search for the fishermen.

Authorities say the body was found at 1:00 p.m. in the Mississippi River near the Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park ramp. The body was taken to the forensic center for a positive identification.
