One of the longest running festivals in the area started the weekend with a highly competitive race.
The Germantown Festival hosted the annual “Running of Weenies” race Saturday.
Dachshunds took off to see which one would reach the finish line first.
There was also a best dressed hotdog costume contest for the dogs.
The winner of the costume contest was Petey the “Mouse” in his giant trap.
“We’ve been doing this for about 8 years now, and we just love it. It’s fun! We have two weenie dogs, and it’s just a yearly thing for us,” said Mandy Hurdle, Petey’s owner.
Money raised from the Running of Weenies race and the best dressed contests on Saturday will benefit the Germantown Animal Shelter.
