Opinion | COVID Cluster: outrage grows over vaccine debacle | Richard Ransom

In his Ransom Note, Local 24 News Anchor Richard Ransom discusses the fallout from thousands of wasted COVID-19 vaccines

SHELBY COUNTY, Tennessee — In Thursday’s Ransom Note: piling on.

Friday should be an interesting day at the Shelby County Commission. They already met with health director Dr. Alisa Haushalter privately Tuesday in what was probably a violation of the open meetings law.

Tomorrow Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris will be there too, and since then, a number of politicians have stepped forward wanting investigations and firings.

Memphis City Councilman Chase Carlisle Thursday called for "the immediate termination of ...Haushalter and the removal of all leadership in the Shelby County Health Department."

Congressman David Kustoff questioned the leadership of all Shelby County government for being "highly reckless" and guilty of "gross negligence and possible malfeasance." The CDC has sent a representative here to investigate. Governor Bill Lee said he expected a federal investigation.

The Commercial Appeal is reporting it could hardly find a single agency in the United States that wasted more than 2,400 doses, citing the whole state of Florida has only wasted 3,000.

This controversy is not over, and it shouldn't be. The public deserves answers.
