Opinion | What do Lin-Manuel Miranda and the Memphis Tigers have in common? They’re not throwing away their…shot | Richard Ransom

The Memphis Tigers are doing their part to encourage people to get COVID-19 vaccination shots.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. โ€” In Wednesdayโ€™s Ransom Note: the push to get us vaccinated. Now the Memphis Tigers are doing their part, effectively updating their rallying cry from "Go Tigers, Go" to "Go Tigers, go...get vaccinated!"

U of M's head women's basketball coach Katrina Merriweather posted on Twitter Wednesday a video which encourages students to do their part.

"The key to winning is knowing when to take a shot. That moment is now Tigers. For a safer campus and city, give the COVID vaccine a shot. Let's keep Tiger Nation strong. (Stick it to COVID). The last graphic on the video said, "Stick it to COVID."

Of course, the city and county mayors have had similar spots encouraging us to get vaccinated, and the state has had its own campaign, but do these spots work? Our vaccination numbers aren't the best, but on the heels of one of the most depressing days of this pandemic locally, it's good to see our community leaders doing their part.
