Cameron Harper is co-anchor of Local 24 News weekdays at 5:00pm, 6:00pm, 10:00pm and the CW30 News at 9:00pm.

Cameron was born a tiny baby in a tiny town in southern Kentucky, but quickly saw no future in it. So, he held his breath and refused to eat until his parents moved to Indian Rocks Beach, Florida where he grew up believing baiting hooks was a pretty good job.

That’s also where Cameron got hooked on broadcasting. Sending words and pictures through thin air seemed almost as cool as winning the 5th grade science fair for his copper plating project. In school, he learned to string words together in such a way people actually thought he was saying something meaningful.

Cameron got his first job in broadcasting by annoying the director of a local radio station until he got hired as an audio engineer for an afternoon disc jockey. His big on “on air” break came when cops hauled the DJ away for unpaid traffic tickets and Cameron had to takeover. He was awful, but managers were more forgiving then.

You can find Cameron on Twitter @NewsCam, on Instagram or his Facebook page. He’s almost always there, including when he’s on the air. So, hit him up with a story idea or a comment, anything you think he should know about or just a chat. Cameron says, “the news doesn’t wait until 5 o’clock, why should it?” He believes the whole day and the newscast should be interactive.

You’ll often find him out in the community involved in good causes and sharing information about events.

Cameron is an Emmy award winning journalist who has traveled the world in search of great stories. He has reported from more than two dozen countries on four continents, from a nuclear missile submarine deep in the Atlantic Ocean, from war zones, even from Air Force One.

Some of his best stories come from the streets of Memphis, a city Cameron loves for its “great personality and great personalities.”

Before moving to Memphis in 2002, he spent almost a decade as an investigative reporter in Phoenix, Arizona. He has also anchored the news at CBS and ABC television stations in Dallas and San Francisco.

Cameron is a member of Leadership Memphis. He believes in using his anchor position to help people. He organized and promoted the first ever Celebrity Putt-Putt Golf Tournament raising thousands of dollars for the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis, where he’s also a member of the board.

Cameron is a pilot, a SCUBA diver, an avid mountain biker and loves great cooking. His wife, D.Ann is a radio and television voiceover announcer. They share their home with a big yellow Labrador Retriever named Barkley.
