Phillip R. Bowden, M.D., has gained the respect of colleagues within his field as well as his patients, who appreciate his painless approach to dealing with a wide range of gastrointestinal problems, including ulcers, abdominal pain, indigestion, colon cancer screening, liver diseases and pancreatic problems. Dr. Bowden’s philosophy is that preventative medicine is the best kind of medicine. He is dedicated to educating the Memphis community about Colon Cancer and how to prevent and treat the disease.
Originally from West Helena, Arkansas, Dr. Bowden earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Morehouse College with honors. His M.D. was earned from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and his post-doctoral training from the University of Tennessee at Memphis. Dr. Bowden is Board Certified in Gastroenterology.
After practicing briefly in Little Rock, Arkansas, Dr. Bowden relocated his practice to Memphis, opening his first office in Whitehaven in December 1994. Since then, Dr. Bowden has founded the Mid-South Gastroenterology Group and expanded the practice: to Midtown Memphis. His clinic and surgery center were completed in spring of 1998.

From the latest in medical technology in surgery centers and Endoscopy units, Dr. Bowden has the first Pathology laboratory in a GI practice in the city of Memphis, his practice also provides CT technology and his innovative decision in 1999 to bring Colon Hydrotherapy to the city of Memphis has proven to be very successful. His practice specializes in attention his patients, and providing quality service. Dr. Bowden consistently strives to improve.
When he is not working Dr. Bowden enjoys, skiing, snowboarding, running, traveling and spending time with his wife Ritche and their two children Deen and Dia.
