Gusty Winds Hang On A Little Longer In Areas

The Wind Advisory for northern and eastern sections of the Mid-South is now set to expire at 10 p.m.
MEMPHIS, TN--I hope everyone managed to not blow away! High winds has resulted in isolated areas of damage across the Mid-South. The Wind Advisory for Shelby County and areas south and west will expire at 6 p.m. this evening. However, the advisory has been extended until 10 p.m. tonight for the eastern and northern sections of the Mid-South. Winds will remain gusty in those areas through that time frame tonight. Temperatures will be very frigid overnight as lows drop into the upper 20's and lower 30's. Breezy winds (even after advisories expire) will result in wind chills in the teens! Brrr!

Sunshine is on the way for tomorrow, but highs will not climb very much. Highs on Friday will only top out in the mid and upper 40's. Southerly winds return on Saturday and another warm up will arrive, lasting through Christmas Day. Expect dry weather over the weekend, although a stray shower can't be ruled out on Sunday as moisture returns to the area.

Weather models continue to struggle with next week's rain-maker. Currently, a weather system is expected to develop along the Gulf Coast and move across southern Mississippi and into Alabama. This would allow the Mid-South to dodge a severe weather threat, but rain will still spread northward. Scattered showers are possible Monday as well as Christmas night. The heaviest rain right now appears to arrive overnight on the 25th into early on the 26th. Meanwhile, colder air will make its arrival and models are HINTING at a window of opportunity for a few flakes. I have left this mention out of my 7 day forecast at the moment since all weather models are not totally in agreement. We will certainly nail the holiday forecast down over the weekend as we get a little closer.

In the near-term, bundle up and enjoy the sunshine ahead!
