MEMPHIS, TN-- Much needed rain arrived in the Mid-South this morning. Showers and a few rumbles of thunder will continue through the evening and overnight. Humid and mild conditions will carry the Mid-South through the weekend with highs tomorrow hitting 90 degrees. Widely scattered showers will be possible again during the day tomorrow, but additional peaks of sunshine should result in a hotter afternoon. At this time, the first half of the work week will be fairly quiet with daytime temperatures in the lower 90's and overnight lows in the 70's.
All eyes continue to watch the tropics. Tropical Storm Isaac is forecast to strengthen to a hurricane by the end of the weekend. Computer models continue to vary on the track of Isaac, but at this time, the majority of models indicate that Isaac will make landfall around the Gulf Shores, Alabama area early Wednesday morning. If that verifies, Isaac would quickly make a northeastward turn which would steer the heaviest rainfall away from the Mid-South. However, one outlier computer model shows a farther west landfall and does bring significant rain to the Mid-South. So, I won't completely rule out any influence from Isaac at this time. For now, the forecast reflects the Mid-South only slight chances of rain with the heaviest rain staying south. We will keep an eye on that if Isaac changes its plans.
Have a great weekend!
