Strong Storms Possible On Sunday

Pop-up storms are likely during the afternoon on Sunday with strong storms arriving late Sunday night.
MEMPHIS, TN--Isolated storms are possible overnight tonight as a warm front lifts northward through the Mid-South. Temperatures will remain steady and even warm up towards sunrise Sunday morning. Sunday will be an unsettled day for the Mid-South. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined most of the Mid-South in a Slight Risk for severe storms. A potent weather system will swing a cold front through the area late tomorrow night, but prior to the front arriving, isolated showers and storms will develop during the afternoon. A few storm will be strong and potentially severe with the main threats being hail and damaging wind.

A cold front with heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms will arrive in the Mid-South between 10 p.m. and midnight Sunday. Widespread rain is likely with some areas picking up more than two inches in some locations. Temperatures will quickly fall as the cold front pushes through the Mid-South from west to east. Temperatures by Monday morning will have dropped into the mid 40's and will continue to drop throughout the day. The question still remains of the potential for a wintry mix. If the cold air arrives with lingering moisture still in place, a few ice pellets may be seen.

Sunny and cold conditions will be in town for the middle of next week. Another late week warm-up will arrive by Friday, along with another round of rain.
