Hot Rod Power Tour Cruises Into Town

Memphis International Raceway, in cooperation with Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau, Millington Area Chamber of Commerce and Automotive Performance Leader, COMP Cams hosts Hot Rod Magazine’s Flagship Touring Event, Tuesday, June 4, 2013.

Millington, TN (May 20, 2013) Memphis International Raceway, in cooperation with Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau, Millington Area Chamber of Commerce and Automotive Performance Leader, COMP Cams hosts Hot Rod Magazine’s Flagship Touring Event, Tuesday, June 4, 2013.  The ingredients for the ultimate performance-car fan experience are combined to perfection every first week of June as the legendary Hot Rod Power Tour makes its seven-cities-in-seven-days journey.

For 2013, Chevrolet Performance Presents the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour Driven by Continental Tire is set to kickoff June 1st in Arlington, Texas and makes a stop in 5 other car crazy towns before it comes to a close in N. Concord (Charlotte), North Carolina on Friday, June 7th.  The tour brings to life the pages of Hot Rod, and embodies all that the magazine has stood for in its 65-year history. Over 5,400 enthusiasts will participate in the trip driving their beloved hot rods, street rods, custom trucks, muscle cars, and street machines of every make, model and vintage.  Over the 7 tour stops, over 85,000 spectators will be admitted free to take in the daily show of thousands of “to die for” machines and the traveling exhibits of over 50 top aftermarket manufacturers.  Along the carefully-chosen tour route in towns big and small, thousands more will stake out roadside viewing spots for this ultimate performance parade.

Memphis International Raceway in Millington, TN will host Day 4 of the Hot Rod Power Tour's 7-day, 7-city adventure, Tuesday, June 4th from Noon – 6pm.  The track hosted a Power Tour once before as the Power Tour traveled its annual 7-day trek cross-country in 2007.  “We are excited to welcome the HotRod Power Tour back to Memphis International Raceway. The last time the event stopped here it was a huge economic engine for the area and showcased Memphis’ southern hospitality to over 2,000 participants. The substantial growth of the tour since that time means this stop will have an even greater benefit for the area.  Thanks to the support from our partners with the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Millington Area Chamber of Commerce, we were able to secure one of the seven stops on the tour,” said Pam Kendrick, Vice President and General Manager Memphis International Raceway.

Being chosen as a tour stop on the Hot Rod Power Tour represents broad economic impact to the area and brings extensive positive local and national exposure to MIR, Millington and the Greater Memphis Region.  “Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau is pleased to support Memphis International Raceway in bringing the HotRod Power Tour to the Greater Memphis Region in June,” said John Oros, Executive Vice President, Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau.  Oros continues, “Memphis is fortunate to have first class venues like MIR that attract national and international events like this one that have a powerful economic impact on our entire region.  The Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau welcomes the HotRod Power Tour to the birthplace of rock and soul and promises HotRod enthusiasts a rocking, Memphis – style good time.”

“The Millington Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to be a co-sponsor of this event.  It will bring national attention to the City by showcasing Millington as a tourism end-destination which can only result in a positive impact on the City’s exposure and  local economy,”  said Teri Flannagan, Millington Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We welcome the Hot Rod Power Tour to Memphis International Raceway and the area.  We have a day of fun and festivities planned at the track, an adventure experience at area destinations culminating in a Cruise on Memphis’ historic Beale Street  for a Hot Rod Block Party in the Birthplace of Rock and Soul,” said Pam Kendrick Vice President and General Manager Memphis International Raceway.  “MIR is collaborating with area destinations to introduce our guests to the area and enhance their experience while they are in town by developing an Adventure Passport.   I encourage you to visit each destination where a unique experience awaits you and where you will receive a stamp or sticker on your adventure passport.  Those who have accumulated the most stamps and stickers on their Adventure Passport will receive a commemorative reward from Memphis International Raceway at the end of their journey at the Hot Rod Cruise on historic Beale Street the evening of June 4,” said Pam Kendrick, Vice President and General Manager Memphis International Raceway.

Day 4 of the Power Tour Cruise Night is sponsored Memphis-based automotive aftermarket performance leader, COMP Cams.  COMP Cams and its parent company, COMP Performance Group has been a Memphis-based company for over 35 years and has been involved in the Power Tour for many years.  “COMP Cams is always excited to be involved with the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour,” said Chris Douglas, Vice President of Marketing - COMP Performance Group.  “The people on the tour are always great to travel with and are some of the most serious participants in the automotive aftermarket.  This event is unlike any other car show – it’s more of a celebration of the open road.”

“The Power Tour is truly the ultimate hot rodding adventure,” said Jeff Dahlin, Publisher of Hot Rod Magazine.  “The event began 19 years ago as a road trip from Southern California to Detroit for a few of the editors and some of their friends who had built magazine project vehicles.  19 years later,  it’s amassed over 5,400 vehicles, over 85,000 spectators, 50 of the nation’s premier automotive aftermarket manufacturers and becomes the center of a worldwide buzz in the automotive aftermarket industry every June.  We can’t wait to bring the Power Tour, Hot Rod Magazine’s flagship event, back to Memphis this June.”

More than 50 sponsors and vendors travel with the Hot Rod Power Tour.  Each day they set up elaborate displays of their latest products in a Midway.  At the main stage, prizes are awarded and celebrities are featured each afternoon.  Thousands of dollars in prizes are awarded to participants on the Hot Rod Power Tour.   The Hot Rod Power Tour is free to spectators however there is a cost to register a vehicle for just one day or the entire event.  Vehicle registration is open to any year, make or model of vehicle.  Pre-register for $80 plus $3.50 handling fee or register on-site for $90.   Pre-register through Thursday, May 23, 2013 at www.HotRod.com or by calling (877)-413-6515.  Join the Tour one day only for just $30.  One day registration available on site only.
