The Memphis Railroad and Trolley Museum, Amtrak, MATA , and the Canadian National Railroad will be celebrating National Train Day on Saturday May 11, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The museum will have its regular exhibits open along with some special exhibits. Amtrak will have a train on display along with exhibits. Canadian National will display a locomotive and MATA will have trolley rides. Operation lifesaver will have safety presentations and there will be entertainment, food and vendors.
The museum is currently developing plans and fundraising for its phase 2 exhibit area. This will double the size of the museum to 4000 sq. ft. and is projected to be completed by May 1, 2014 with an estimated cost of $300,000.
The Memphis Railroad and Trolley Museum opened to the public April 1, 2012 and current operating days and hours are Friday and Saturday 9AM to 5PM and Sunday 12 PM to 5 PM. Other times are by appointment. The museum is a 501c3 corporation.
