Federal Indictment For Accused Bank Robber

A 19-year-old southern Illinois man suspected of being the "I-55 Bandit" has been indicted on a felony count of bank robbery.
ST. LOUIS (AP) - A 19-year-old southern Illinois man suspected of being the "I-55 Bandit" has been indicted on a felony count of bank robbery.

The U.S. Attorney's office in St. Louis says the investigation of Andrew Maberry of O'Fallon, Ill., continues. The indictment was announced Thursday.

Maberry is accused of robbing a Commerce Bank branch in Jefferson County, Mo., on July 2. But he could face additional charges.

Maberry turned himself in last week after the FBI released surveillance photos from several bank robberies. The FBI dubbed the robber the "I-55 Bandit" because some of the crimes occurred near Interstate 55.

Maberry is under investigation in 10 robberies and two robbery attempts since May at banks in Illinois, Missouri, Maryland, West Virginia and Tennessee.
