LITTLE ROCK, AR (abc24.com) - Arkansas voters may be asked whether they want to outlaw abortion in the new year.

An anti-abortion group submitted an amendment to the state constitution that reads:

"No innocent person shall be denied the right to life. With respect to the right to life, the word 'person' shall apply to all human beings, including the unborn, at every stage of their development."

Voters in Mississippi defeated a similar measure in a November 2011 election.

Arkansas' abortion ban will show up on next year's ballot if the group "Personhood Arkansas" can come up with more than 78,000 signatures by July.
