FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP, abc24.com) - Fort Smith police say officers arrested a man on suspicion of drunken driving after he allegedly led them on a high-speed chase in a stolen car, then told officers he was a NASCAR driver with "high-quality driving skills."

According to police, officers stopped a vehicle at 4:45 a.m. Sunday after seeing it swerve toward them. Police say the driver took off as officers were walking toward the vehicle.

The pursuit continued through side streets and alleys until the driver, 52-year-old Jimmy Don Crow, lost control and crashed into a metal sign.

The Southwest Times Record reports that Crow allegedly bragged to the officers about the chase and said he was a NASCAR driver.

Crow was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and drunken driving, among other charges.
