BATESVILLE, Ark. (AP, abc24.com) - ConAgra Foods Inc. is laying off as many as 250 people at its Batesville frozen food plant.

The company informed workers of the layoff on Thursday, saying some production will move about 300 miles to a plant in Marshall, Mo.

The layoffs are to become effective in July.

ConAgra makes Banquet and Kids Cuisine frozen dinners at the Batesville plant. The Batesville Guard reports that the plant employed 538 people earlier this year.

Batesville Mayor Rick Elumbaugh says he'll work with state officials to ensure the laid-off workers get benefits and any training or job placement services the state offers.
