OXFORD, MS- -Austin police say no arrests have been made in the case of an assault in downtown Austin, Texas Saturday.

According to family and friends, University of Mississippi student Carson Otter was in town for the Ole Miss football game against the University of Texas and is now being treated for life-threatening injuries at University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin.

The Austin Police Department says investigators are looking into a verbal disturbance between Otter and some men in a passing car.

Police say Otter was walking and started to argue with a passenger inside a four-door, silver vehicle. The passenger got out of the car and hit Otter once, causing him to fall and hit his head. The attacker got back into the car and left the scene.

According to friends, Otter is from Bloomington, Indiana, and is currently a senior at the University of Mississippi.

Carson's mother posted an update on her Facebook page Sunday saying, "Today, Carson was able to breathe on his own for a few hours, still on a ventilator but showing great signs."
