Tennessee Mosque Murfreesboro mosque foes seek to stop construction

Opponents of a mosque in Rutherford County have filed for an injunction seeking to stop construction.
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - Opponents of a mosque in Rutherford County have filed for an injunction seeking to stop construction. According to The Daily News Journal (http://on.dnj.com/Mfrt9T), plaintiffs filed the request Wednesday.

A judge last week declared the mosque approval void because of inadequate public notice, but he did not halt construction. The construction has been ongoing during the year and a half the court case has dragged on. There already is an existing mosque but supporters say a bigger one is needed.

Mosque leaders hope to finish the first phase of construction before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which begins in mid-July. Last week's order by Rutherford County Chancellor Robert Corlew prohibits further meetings on the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro without proper notice to the public.
