Dave Joerger Promoted to Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach

MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - The Memphis Grizzlies have offered the head coach position to Dave Joerger, who has been the team's assistant coach for six seasons.

Joerger takes over for former head coach Lionel Hollins, whose contract was not renewed by team management. Hollins led the Grizzlies to the NBA Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history last season, with a 196-155 record overall as head coach.

The team's successes are also due in large part to Dave Joerger, who built the team's defense to be ranked 2nd in the NBA last season. Earlier in his career, he served as head coach in the International Basketball Association, Continental Basketball Association, and NBA D-League, netting 5 championship wins.

Joerger is expected to sign a four-year contract that will pay more than $1 million a year.
