East's Nick King Named Mr. Basketball

MURFREESBORO- - -The winner of the Class AAA Mr. Basketball Award was announced at the conclusion of the championship game Saturday at Murphy Center.

Nick King from Memphis East High School was named Mr. Basketball in Class AAA for 2013. The other two finalists were Robert Hubbs from Dyer County High School and Darius Thompson from Blackman High School.

King is a 6’7”, senior, small forward. He is a four year starter for the Mustangs who averages 24.4 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game. He shoots 62% from the field, 40% from three-point range, and 82% from the charity stripe. He has been named the Commercial Appeal’s “Best of the Preps” Player of the Year and was also named the MVP of the Class AAA state tournament in 2012. Nick has scored over 1,900 points and has over 1,000 rebounds in his career at Memphis East.
