MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP, abc24.com) — The Grizzlies have laid off seven employees as the NBA lockout nears what would normally be the opening of training camps.

Memphis spokesman Matt Tumbleson confirmed Wednesday to The Associated Press that seven employees had been laid off but would not comment further.

The Commercial Appeal reports video coordinator Trish McGhee, assistant equipment manager Vince Ford and scouting coordinator Wendy Smith were among the workers relieved of their duties along with a receptionist, mail clerk and members of the claim services staff.

Some will be able to return to work when the lockout ends.

The NBA lockout started July 1, and training camps in the league had been expected to open Oct. 3.
