Williams, Collins Look To Lead Arkansas Backfield

Razorbacks relying on youth.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas doesn't enter this season with a proven top-flight running back under first-year coach Bret Bielema.

What the Razorbacks do have, however, is a stable of young runners - led by sophomore Jonathan Williams and freshman Alex Collins - who they hope are ready to take on the Southeastern Conference.

Both of Arkansas' top two running backs from a year ago, Knile Davis and Dennis Johnson, are now in the NFL - leaving the Razorbacks without the 1,134 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns they provided last season.

Williams averaged 5.1 yards per carry in limited action last season, and Bielema says he is the team's "go-to" back this season. The Texas native has been pushed, though, in preseason camp by Collins - one of the top recruits in the country.
