Act of Vandalism Starts Huge Fight at Juvenile Court

A late-night act of vandalism prompted a fight to break out among dozens of detainees at Juvenile Court on Monday.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - A late-night act of vandalism prompted a fight to break out among dozens of detainees at Juvenile Court on Monday.

Investigators say just before midnight on Monday, June 17, a 16-year-old being held at Juvenile Court managed to use a long mop handle to break the sprinkler system in his cell. When the sprinkler system went off, all of the cell doors opened automatically and around 50 juveniles began fighting each other.

Shelby County Sheriff's deputies and Memphis police took control of the floor and moved the juveniles involved to another area of the detention center.

The teen that started everything has been charged with Felony Vandalism.
