Jackson police are searching for one of two brothers accused of a shooting that sent a one-year-old to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.
JACKSON, TN (localmemphis.com) - Jackson police are searching for one of two brothers accused of a shooting that sent a one-year-old to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.

The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, June 17, at The Villages Apartments in Jackson, Tennessee. Investigators say there was a confrontation involving Tony and Justin Byrd, who are brothers, as they were leaving the apartment complex. A shot was fired from the car they were driving, which ricocheted off a nearby doorframe.

The child was being held by his mother standing in the doorway when he was hit by the stray bullet. He was transported to Jackson Madison County Hospital, and then airlifted to Le Bonheur. He was last reported in critical but stable condition.

The vehicle the Byrds were driving was found abandoned on West Park Place in Jackson Tuesday morning.

Justin Byrd was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon. Formal charges are pending. Police are still searching for Tony Byrd.
