Corey Maclin Killed in Mississippi Car Accident

Former Local 24 Sports anchor Corey Maclin was killed in a car accident near Sardis, Mississippi on Tuesday.
SARDIS, MS (localmemphis.com) - Former Local 24 Sports anchor Corey Maclin was killed in a car accident near Sardis, Mississippi on Tuesday.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Maclin was southbound on I-55 just south of Sardis around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30.

Witnesses stated Maclin's vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic and rolled over, throwing him from the vehicle. Maclin, 43, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Maclin was alone in the vehicle.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Corey Maclin was a lifelong resident of Shelby County, born and raised in Millington, TN.

At 18, Maclin was named program / news director in Memphis hired by WLOK radio. Later, he worked for two seasons with the Memphis Rockers basketball team of the WBL and was hired for two seasons with the Memphis Hounddawgs of the ABA.

For more than 20 years he has been the well known voice and host of Memphis Wrestling, the longest running, highest rated wrestling show in wrestling history. It aired in hundreds of markets across the US, Europe, Italy and Canada.

Corey Maclin joined Local 24 in 2010, where he was a sports anchor for 2 1/2 years. He leaves behind his wife and their six children.

Corey's family released the following statement:

We are grateful and dearly touched for the overwhelming outpouring of support and concern from our community concerning the loss of our beloved Corey. Corey Maclin loved Memphis and Memphians, and he dedicated his life to bringing joy and happiness to the whole Memphis community through the venues of news, entertainment, and through public service.


Obviously, this is a time of great grief and sadness for us. We appreciate you keeping us in your prayers while our family embraces each other and tries to find some comfort at this unexpected and devastating loss of such a great man. We thank you in advance for respecting our privacy.


We will issue a statement regarding memorial and funeral arrangements at a later date.
