MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - One of the most exciting basketball players in Memphis is hoping he gets to stay here. 'Flying Tiger' D.J. Stephens is working out for the Memphis Grizzlies Thursday.

"I'd love to see him a part of the Grizzlies. Go Grizz, Go Tigers!" says fan Ken Baker.

Memphis basketball fans could merge their love for both teams in one player.

Fan Victoria Harris thinks, "That would be a good combination."

Brooks Yelverton agrees. "I love D.J. Getting to see him on the Grizzlies, get to watch him play a few more years - as opposed to him winding up going overseas playing somewhere we never see him again."

They're wishing Stephens well on his workout with the Grizzlies Thursday.

Curtis Harris says, "We need local talent to stay in town."

"He has a lot of fans, mostly at University of Memphis," says Victoria, "They're passionate about him. I'm passionate about him!"

He made Tiger crowds roar with his sky high jumps, dunks and blocks.

"Somebody's going to pick him up so I'm hoping he can play for the Grizzlies," says Baker.

Stephens is hoping for that too.

"It would be phenomenal for the city, good for me too; it would mean a lot to both of us," he said. "I've still been hearing same thing, second round guy. There's no guarantees about hearing my name called. I'm just staying hopeful continuing to play hard."

The Grizzlies have two second round draft picks. They have 41st pick and the very last - the 60th pick. The NBA Draft is next Thursday, June 27.
