MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong revealed even more officers were involved in a July 4, 2011 altercation where cops beat two men.

Armstrong told abc24.com, "There are no excuses for it. We won't make any excuses for it. The conduct won't be condoned by the Police Department."

He added, "It is disappointing that our officers weren't able to control their emotions and allow them to get out of control and boil into an incident of this magnitude."

Seven MPD officers have been suspended without pay and more suspensions may soon follow. Armstrong promised, "Anybody that acts inappropriately in that manner will be dealt with. You can see by the [suspension] days handed out that it won't be tolerated."

Officer Marico Flake is suspended for 15 days. Officers Cecil Flower, Steven Breth, Jonathan Barron and Joshua Howard are each off the job for 9 days. Eric Lee is serving a 5 day suspension. Francis Cherry is suspended for 4 days.
