MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - An elderly man and his wife spent Wednesday night in jail after a spat at their Berclair home led to domestic assault.

Police were called to the 1000-block of Sandra St just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17.

Investigators say 56-year-old Lisa Sullivan had returned home with her husband's truck when the couple began to argue while out on the back patio. Mrs. Sullivan told officers her husband, 89-year-old Elbert Sullivan, picked up a chain with a lock on the end and hit her in the face. She then followed him inside and sprayed him in the face with pepper spray.

According to the police affidavit, a witness corroborated what had transpired, although Elbert Sullivan denied to officers that he hit his wife with a chain. Officers stated in the report they were unable to determine who the primary aggressor was.

Elbert and Lisa Sullivan were both arrested and charged with Domestic Assault. They were booked at the Shelby County Jail on a $250 bond.
