MEMPHIS, TN--A former Shelby County Sheriff deputy is charged with aggravated assault and retaliation of past actions for two bizarre incidents over the past few months.

Heather Westling resigned from the SCSO on May 14th.  Sheriff’s deputies say two days later, she threatened two deputies with a knife.  The deputies went to her Bartlett home on a welfare check.  They say when they got there Westling cursed them and threatened them with a knife.  Deputies took her into custody and then committed her to a state mental facility.

On July 9th, a Memphis Police officer pulled Westling over for speeding.  According to the affidavit of complaint, she told the officer she knew she was speeding and had a gun.  The officer says he knew Westling from her time with the SCSO.  He says he also knew about her past troubles.  He says he found the gun, Westling told him she was waiting for the right officer to pull her over.  She also made threats to the unknown officer.

Westling is currently out of jail on bond. She is due back in court August 12th.
