Germantown High School Student Killed in Shooting

Police are investigating the shooting death of a Germantown High School student Thursday night.
GERMANTOWN, TN (abc24.com) - Police are investigating the shooting death of a Germantown High School student Thursday night.

It happened just after 10 p.m. on Thursday, March 28 in the 8000-block of Tulip Rose Drive in Germantown.

Investigators say the victim is 16-year-old Himyar Hassan, a junior at Germantown High School. He was dead when Shelby County Sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene.

According to Chip Washington with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Hassan was handling a loaded .45 caliber handgun when it fired accidentally, hitting the teen in the chest. How he acquired the gun is still under investigation.

Thursday night's shooting marked the second death of a Germantown High School student this week; 16-year-old Christian Hess died in a car accident Wednesday afternoon.
