MCS Workers Fighting to Keep Their Jobs

Nearly 800 school custodial workers are angry and shocked they may lose their jobs, without a having a say in the matter.

Well now would be the time to find better employees, re-think benefits and retirement pkg, medical and dental benefits. Quit building outlandish schools, and more schools that function as schools. Put in one dress code for all schools. Close schools that are not filled to capacity. Hire teachers that care about teaching the kids. Enforce discipline so the teachers can do their jobs. Hold the parents accountable for their kids actions. MCS dumped the system, so in saying that, none should have a right to a job. If so, have everyone reapply from the Principle on down..............

Ive been laid off through no fault of my own 4 times in 5 years. I never had a say in the matter. Suck it up and enjoy the "real" world your liberal policies and politicians have created. Votes matter.

Tell these people to go talk to Martavious...he's the one who gave up the charter to keep Memphis from paying out money to take care of the education of the kids. Outsource more ,save money where ever possible ! Stop putting everything on the taxpayers. If the unified board doesn't get busy and file suit on the city for that 57 million the court ordered them to pay they will not get that either!

MCS got out of the teaching business long ago. Its become a jobs provider being one of the largest provders in the area. While I think jobs should be reduced and the focus placed back on the education. I'm aganst outsourcing. Outsoucing leads to corruption and rarely save any money. An example would be the opening of sealed bids at the meeting on Thursday and allowing competition to match the lowest bid.

i,too, hate to see any hard working person lose their jobs. As far as Ms. Lewis storming out of the meeting and advising she will contact her attorney, does ANYONE care, her attorney cannot do one thing about that. She needs to go home and find a hobby, watch tv, and find something else to do.

And this would be about 1 person in 1,000? Or less? Even in Russia or China I doubt such workers would "have a say," Jackie. The taxpayer needs economies. Perhaps these people would like to join the rioters in the streets of Athens, Greece?

Can't think of any employees that have a say about layoffs and firings when a company closes. It is tragic that people will lose their jobs. However, Memphis is no longer in the school business and have chosen to close their "company". It is now Unified Shelby County Schools.

It is not the government nor the school districts mandate to create jobs. I hate to see anyone lose their job however, the tax payers should not suffer either.
