MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong finally responded to ABC24's questions about one of his officers caught on camera sleeping on the job.
ABC24 News video shows a police officer sound asleep at the front desk of the new Crump Station. She was sleeping when we walked in with our cameras, knew we were there, and kept sleeping.
Director Armstrong's reaction was, "Honestly I was disappointed and it angers me that a police officer that would not take her job more seriously and fall asleep on duty."
Armstrong says MPD is investigating. Truth is, what is there to investigate? Why waste time and money? The video is clear; she was sleeping on the job.
"All of our officers have the opportunity to have an administrative hearing. It's called due process," Armstrong said. "Even though it's caught on video and cut and dry there is still a process we have to go through, according to our memorandum of understanding with the Memphis Police Association."
The sleeping cop could lose her job over this, but that probably won't happen. Truth is the officer wouldn't even be in this situation if she had just kept her eyes open.
