Memphis, TN (localmemphis.com)-- A Memphis mechanic is recovering after a co-worker bit off his ear during a fight.
"I'm still in shock," said the mechanic, who didn't want to tell localmemphis.com his name because he still fears for his safety.
According to police, the fight broke out on August 29th. The mechanic says he was sleeping on one of the couches in the breakroom when the suspect came in. The mechanic said his co-worker became enraged that he was resting on one of the couches after hours.
The mechanic said the suspect started fighting in, biting him in the finger, arm, and then the ear.
The mechanic says next thing he knew, a chunk of his right ear was on the floor.
"I get up, put it on ice, put it in the bag, grab a rag, put it in my ear for the blood, called the police," he said.
On Monday, police arrested Estevan Aleman and charged him with aggravated assault.
"It was a terrible day," said Arthur Glenn Cox.
Cox knows Aleman well. Too well.
Cox says Aleman bit his ear about a year ago after the two of them got into a fight.
"I don't know if he eats meat or what," Cox said.
The mechanic tells localmemphis.com that doctors told him the rest of his ear could not be saved. Doctors estimated it would cost him $15,000 to get a new ear, money the mechanic says he doesn't have.
According to jail records, Aleman was charged with aggravated assault. He remained in jail Wednesday night on a $75,000 bond.
