Memphis Workers to Join Fast Food Strike

Memphis fast food workers are expected to join others around the nation Thursday in a show of solidarity by walking off the job.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - Memphis fast food workers are expected to join others around the nation Thursday in a show of solidarity by walking off the job.

Workers at local McDonald's, Taco Bell, Church's Chicken, and Subway are demanding higher salaries and the option to form a union.

They want their pay raised to $15 an hour.

The fifty-city protest is supposed to begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday, August 28.

There are more than 11,000 fast food workers in Memphis. The average salary here is just under $8.50 an hour.
