Mississippi Residents React to 2nd Butt Injection Death

A Mississippi transgender woman pleaded not guilty Tuesday to the murder of an Alabama woman, who died after getting a silicone injection in her buttocks.
DESOTO COUNTY, MS (localmemphis.com) - A Mississippi transgender pleaded not guilty Tuesday to the murder of an Alabama woman, who died after getting a silicone injection in her buttocks.

Tracey Lynn Garner of Jackson, formerly known as Morris Garner, is charged with depraved heart murder for two women's deaths. Garner entered her plea Tuesday in Hinds County Circuit Court. She's charged in the March 2012 death of Karima Gordon.

Mississippians are wondering why folks aren't fact checking before going under the knife.

"It's dangerous even with somebody that knows what they're doing. There's risks involved, indeed, even with somebody that's completely certified in doing that," said Mallory Harris.

Resident Terry Woods said, "I think we all should all be a little more aware, you know, being tested and checked with certain things."

Tracey Lynn Garner is charged in two butt injection deaths, a plastic surgery procedure she wasn't licensed to perform. Prosecutors say the low-cost procedure cost victim Marilyn Hale her life.

Resident Rita Vaughn said, "Don't take any kind of procedure, any kind of shot, until you know what the medicine could do. There's side effects to everything you take. Women have to be really careful, men do too though. As for those injections, no way would I ever consider that. No way."

Resident Willie Hall said, "Most of the time people don't check. They don't do the background work on stuff like that."

Mississippians we spoke with agree, before you undergo any major surgery, you better research your doctor. Some say what you're born with should just be left alone.

"You shouldn't get it done anyway. Be happy with what God gave you," said Mattie Canada.

Garner is being charged with two counts of depraved heart murder, each punishable by life in prison.
