Mobile Home Double Shooting a Murder/Suicide

Police are investigating what they believe was a murder/suicide at a northeast Memphis mobile home park early Friday morning.
MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Police are investigating what they believe was a murder/suicide at a northeast Memphis mobile home park early Friday morning.

Officers were called to the 2600-block of Wayne Place at the Green Acres Mobile Home Park around 2 a.m. on Friday, November 23. They found two gunshot victims, a 40-year man and a 26-year-old woman, who were both pronounced dead on the scene.

Peter Caliandro, who lives across the street, heard the gunshots. "I happened to hear the first shot; that woke me up… It sounded like a firecracker or tire being blown out," he said. "About ten seconds later there were two more shots in rapid succession."

Friends identified the couple as Monica Cabrera and Jose Jiminez. According to Caliandro, "They were celebrating earlier in the day they seemed very happy."

The celebration turned into a fight when the two returned to the home early Friday morning. Witnesses say Jiminez pulled out a .45 caliber pistol and shot and killed his wife, then killed himself. Blood stains on the porch are a sad reminder of what took place.

"For something like that to happen on that holiday, it's a shame," said Caliandro. "Apparently there were more social problems than anybody realized."

The couple didn't live at the home; they were just visiting for the Thanksgiving holiday. The case remains under investigation.
