Mother Calls Son's Death by Off-Duty Officer 'Cold-Blooded Murder'

MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - It's been four months since an off-duty Memphis police officer shot and killed a teenager. Officer Terrence Shaw claimed Justin Thompson was trying to rob him.

The TBI recently completed its investigation into the 15-year-old's death. The Shelby County District Attorney's Office is now handling the case.

The teen's mother, Shirley Thompson, is now speaking out about her son's shooting death. She says Shaw belongs inside a cell at the Shelby County Jail.

"He had dreams, Thompson said, "Justin had a lot of dreams."

Justin's dreams ended in September of last year after he was shot and killed by Officer Shaw, off duty at the time. Since her son's death Thompson says she's been living in a nightmare.

"It's been hard for us, it's really been hard to cope with," she said. "I can't sleep at night."

Officer Shaw has been suspended with pay since the shooting. He did return to work for a couple of days in December, which angered Thompson even more.

"He's a murderer. He's a cold blooded murderer. I still don't understand why they still have him out on the street."

Her son's death investigation has dragged on for four months. Thompson has a theory why.

"On the death certificate it says my son was shot in the chest. How could you pull the trigger and shoot a 15-year-old in the chest? That's cold-blooded, that's murder. They're trying to hide it. I really believe they're trying to hide it just because he's a police officer."

The grieving mother, who has three other children, has one plea to Officer Shaw, "Please tell the truth... please tell the truth."
