New Internet Meme 'Trayvoning' Draws Disgust

We've heard of "Tebowing" and "Teo'ing," but the latest meme to spread across social media is far from funny. It's called "Trayvoning."
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - It's a joke that pokes fun at Trayvon Martin's final moments.

Whereas "Tebowing" consisted of teenagers taking photos of Tim Tebow's signature pose in odd places; "Trayvoning" is where teens lay on the ground, playing dead while holding a can of iced tea and bag of Skittles.

The images, mostly of teens wearing hoodies, are popping up on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The trend first appeared in 2012, but just re-surfaced after Headline News and MSNBC accidently showed images of Trayvon Martin's body during recent coverage of the trial.

Locals we spoke with found the pictures disturbing

"I don't agree with that at all. Not at all," said Memphis resident Cheronda Veasey.

"It's insensitive and it's inappropriate. With such a volatile situation that we're experiencing now you would hope that incidents like this would not occur. I don't think this is something you should make a mockery out of," said Van Turner with the Memphis NAACP branch.

There's even a Facebook page for "Trayvoning" created by a group called "Controversial Humor."
