MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis Police have released the names of the officers involved in a deadly shooting in the Parkway Village area last week.

Investigators say Officers Ned Aufdenkamp, 30, and Matthew Dyess, 31, shot and killed 24-year-old Steven Askew. The shooting happened at the Windsor Place Apartments on Thursday, January 17.

The officers were called to investigate a noise complaint at a nearby apartment complex just before 10 p.m. During a check of the area they found Askew slumped over a vehicle in the parking lot of Windsor Place. According to the officers, they approached the vehicle to check on the man and saw a handgun inside the vehicle. As they knocked on the window Askew awoke and acknowledged the officers, then pointed his gun at them. Both officers fired, fatally wounding Askew.

Officers Dyess and Aufdenkamp were relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of the investigation, per department policy. Aufdenkamp has been a Memphis officer since July 2007, Dyess has served since June 2010.
