Sentencing Scheduled For Memphis Drug Lord

A judge has set a sentencing date for the leader of a violent Memphis-based drug organization with ties to Mexico's Beltran Leyva cartel.
MEMPHIS, Tenn.-Former Memphis drug kingpin, Craig Petties will be sentenced on August 22nd.

Petties is considered the largest cocaine trafficker in Memphis history.  His organization ran cocaine and other drugs from Mexico to Memphis and across the south in semi-trucks.

Petties was indicted in 2002, but ran to Mexico before being arrested.  He was placed on the U.S. Marshals Service 15 Most Wanted List.  He was captured in January of 2008.

He secretly pleaded guilty to murder and drug charges in December of 2009.  That plea wasn’t made public until February of 2011.

Dozens of Petties’ associates have either pleaded guilty or been convicted in the drug scheme.

He faces life in prison.
