Shoppers, Workers on Edge After Stabbings in Kirby Shopping Center

19 year old Aaron Vasquez was killed early Saturday morning while taking out the trash from a Mexican restaurant.
MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Store owners and shoppers are on edge after two stabbings at an East Memphis shopping center over the weekend. Police just released new information about the latest stabbing.

19 year old Aaron Vasquez was killed early Saturday morning while taking out the trash from a Mexican restaurant.

Police believe his killer also stole Vasquez's car. Cops are looking for a green 1998 Toyota RAV4 with Tennessee tags 779-VWD.

Vasquez's murder has scared and saddened people who work in the Kirby Woods Mall.

"That's terrible, just started his life. That's sad," says Dennis Bradford.

The 19 year old was stabbed while taking out the garbage at El Toro Loco around 3:45 Saturday morning.

Vasquez managed to make it back into the kitchen where he collapsed and died on the restaurant's floor.

"I was working that night. I usually leave out by myself, just so happened I didn't," says Bradford, who works at Exline's Pizza just across the parking lot. "It could have happened to one of our employees."

Bradford says the pizza place recently added new safety rules. "None of our employees go out after dark out the back door to take the garbage out."

That's more important now than ever. Last Friday night, an employee at neighboring business, New China, had his throat cut.

"He did not even see him," says Steve Jiang at New China. "Just hold his head, cut it and ran away."

Jiang describes the attacker as a black male. His coworker is recovering, and out of the hospital.

New China is now taking extra precautions too.

"More cameras outside the front and back and lock the door always, walk out at least two person," Jiang says.

Police are investigating both crimes. There's no word yet if they're connected.
