COLLIERVILLE, TN (localmemphis.com) - A small plane crashed in Collierville Wednesday afternoon, and the two people on board walked away without serious injuries.

The crash occurred around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, on the 5100-block of Reynolds Rd between E Shelby Dr and E Holmes Rd.

"Well, it crashed," said the plane's owner, Marvin Shackelford. "It hit a little tree and spun around in a pond and caught on fire and theirs not anything left but a wing tip and a tail

Shackelford says his two friends were flying the plane. Out of nowhere both say they heard a loud popping noise and that's when it crashed in a pond, right in front of a Collierville home.

According to Collierville Lt. Phillip Arnold, "Both of the parties were that were inside were treated on the scene. One of them was transported non-critical to the hospital and the other left on his own accord."

The pilot was trying to make an emergency landing when it crashed. The plane caught fire but it was quickly put out by the Collierville Fire Dept.

The FAA will be investigating the plane crash.

Arnold noted, "The fact that two men walked away from this crash alive and under their own power is absolutely amazing and a miracle."
