Teenager Indicted On Murder and Arson Charges

Authorities say a teenager has been charged in adult court with setting an April house fire that killed his mother.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - A 15-year-old boy has been indicted on charges of first-degree murder stemming from a fire earlier this year in which his mother was killed.

Jonathan Ray was arrested after the early-morning fire on April 5 at the family home at 4703 Bethay Drive in Hickory Hill where his mother, Gwendolyn Wallace, died.

The fire started on a stairway and trapped Wallace on the second floor of the residence.

Ray is being held in the juvenile facility at Shelby County Jail East.

A Shelby County Grand Jury indicted him on charges of premeditated first-degree murder and first-degree murder during the perpetration of aggravated arson.

Both charges carry a sentence of up to life in prison without parole. Juveniles are not eligible for the death penalty.
