OLIVE BRANCH, MS (abc24.com) - Worry about mold and unsafe conditions at a Desoto County school came to a head Friday afternoon.
A group of parents is concerned the building is making their children sick. DCS held a meeting at Olive Branch Elementary to release findings of an environmental study done this week.
Despite the elementary school getting a clean bill of health, Melissa White isn't convinced the school is safe.
"Since September my daughter has incurred massive sinus infections to where it's damaging her eyes," she said.
Desoto County Schools had environmental testing done examining four common areas and a classroom. Indoor air samples showed no visible mold growth or water leaks around students.
The findings were presented Friday afternoon to a tense crowd of concerned parents like White and those in full support of the school.
The school's principal, Sunnie Barkley, told abc24.com, "My grandson is here. He plays all over the building, all over the school, and if there was anything in danger I would not have my grandson here."
Still, white says, "I don't care about what the numbers are or what they're going to do to fix it. I'm trying my best to get my child out of this school."
