One Dead After Shooting At Byhalia Business; Suspect In Custody

BYHALIA, Miss (localmemphis.coms) -

The Marshall County Sheriff's Department confirms the suspected gunman in a deadly shooting Monday morning has been captured in Memphis. The sheriff says Larmont Burchett is from Slayden, Mississippi.

The shooting happened between 7:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Monday morning at Griffin Inc, an armored vehicle supplier, on Highway 178.

Sheriff Kenny Dickerson says D'Andre Jones and Larmont Burchett were in an argument inside the business, when Burchett, went outside, got a gun, returned inside and shot Jones multiple times.

"The two had words reportedly in the past, I guess no one ever thought it would come to anything this serious,” says Sheriff Dickerson. "He was shot numerous times and then I was told by a witness after he fell to the floor he was shot several more times in the head and body area,” says Dickerson.

Jones was airlifted to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis, where he died.

Police say Burchett left in a Gray 2012 Jeep Liberty.  Again, he has been captured in Memphis, and officially charged with first degree murder. He’s expected to be extradited back to Marshall County in the next few days.

Jones is no stranger to Local 24. He assisted Local 24's Tish Clark for several days following the 2015 Mississippi tornadoes.
