Man & Three Firefighters Injured In Cordova House Fire

MEMPHIS, Tenn (localmemphis.com) - A man and three fire fighters were injured early Thursday morning in a fire at a Cordova home. The Memphis Fire Department responded to a house fire at 9420 Grove Road at 3:14 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they reported heavy smoke visible from the two story house. MFD says a heat lamp sitting too close to the dog house is what caused the fire which spread to the exterior of the house and attic area.

A forty 40-year-old man was taken to Regional One Burn Unit with first degree burns to his face, hands and feet.  He's in stable condition. Three firefighters were treated on the scene for minor injuries.

The home did have a working smoke alarm. Total damage is estimated at $100,000.

The Memphis Fire Department urges all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their home. Check smoke alarms once a month and change the battery when you change your clocks. City of Memphis residents may apply for a free smoke alarm by contacting the Fire Museum of Memphis at (901) 636-5650 or by on-line HERE.
